Mapas Srl., was a silk factory founded in 1949 in Como, Italy. In 1975, when the young Paolo Magialavori graduated from a fashion academy in Milano he joined the factory as designer and started to use the brand name Giorgio Ferri, which was the name of the owner of Mapas Srl. They first started in silk ties and scarf, followed later by handbags, and then gradually expanded their categories of production to men’s and ladies’ apparel, shoes, jeans, gloves, umbrellas and other kinds of leather goods.
In order to expand the business further, in 1988, they tapped
into the franchising business and now they have 34 GF shops in all over Italy
and the 35th one in Bologna on the way. In 1992, they started to sell their
products abroad to Switzerland, Germany and France. Four years later Giorgio
Ferri, USA was opened to distribute GF products to the shops in numerous famous
resort hotels. In 1998, they have secured 19 licensees in Korea covering categories
from apparel, leather goods, watches, optical, underwear, socks, umbrella, sportswear,
shoes, scarves, neckties, and etc.
